Final task - Classroom collaborative storytelling

Collaborative storytelling

The collaborative story created is entitled ´The potato farmer`

Planning
The collaborative storytelling has been planned to be dealt with in 3 different sessions of about 50 minutes each of the sessions.
Design
The aim of the activity is to get the students to create a story by adding 2 or three lines each of the them. In order to do so, I got my students to access ´twiddla`.
I consider this application quite adecuate to get the classroom going straight into the story telling – and avoiding messy registrations and so on. ´Twiddla`allows anyone to access the story and contribute to it – without any othere requirements. It´s goes straight to the activity!
Implementation
Step 1 – Students are told the story about a potato farmer. I myself told them. They just listened and retained the information.
Step 2 – After they have listened the story some comprehension questions are asked.
Step 3 – The final question is Did the farmer really have the money?
Students try to explain the story in their own words and explain what was going on.
Step 4 – I then told the students that they were going to reproduce the story I had just told them about. In order to do so they were going to access:
in their laptops.
Once they entered the page they found themselves with a brief introduction made by myself. The intro is of about 3 lines.
Students then continued the story they had been told about. Each contribution was numbered to follow an order. The students signed each contribution.
The final task which was done in class was to print the story and cut each contribution in different chunks of paper (flashcards).
The students were then told to re-order the story to make it have some sense.
Assessment - Kahoot (should be done)

Module 4 - Collaborative storytelling

     Potato farmer

In order to create a collaborative storytelling I´ve used ´Protagonize`and `Foldingstory`.

´Foldingstory `is quite good although you need to be registered to access the story or even visualize it.

´Protagonize`is much more useful.

a - I´ve registered the page and then created the beginning of the story
b - Anyone can access to the story
c - Students have created one or two lines each.
Note: The story has changed a little due to the students imagination.

The students needed to register to be able to create. In order to avoid this step I´ve let the students access the story and edit.

Módulo 2 - The Doctor (Prezi)

https://prezi.com/plmfg2hmlhzz/the-doctor/

The story I have created with Prezi deals with a father and his son.

They are both in a car on their way home. They feel really happy.

Suddenly, they have a car crash.

An ambulance comes to rescue them. They are taken to hospital.

Then, something happens.

The students task is to solve the mistery!

Module 1 - Storytelling

1. What is storytelling for you?

For me story telling is a way of communication, which creates a connection between the teller and the listener. Storytelling allows the teller to transmit a story. By doing so, he/she entertains and transmits knowledge and experience. Storytelling is one of the ancient ways to communicate.

2. Why Digital Storytelling in class?

Stories can be transmitted in many different ways. Speaking is nice. But what about using technology? Students will be dealing not only with the linguistic competence but also with digital citizenship and literacy.
Digital tools enable students to tell their stories with images, audio, moving text, dynamic backgrounds, props, characters, and other multimedia.

3. Your expectations and goals with this course.

- I expect to learn more about how to tell a story and engage my students within it.
- I expect to be able to use digital tools related to storytelling
- I expect to create digital stories
- I expect to include images, audio, moving text, backgrounds and so on in a digital story.
